History
The Kingscliff Ratepayers and Progress Association Incorporated, and its predecessors, has a proud history of supporting and promoting Kingscliff and the adjacent districts of 2487.
The Association was first formed in 1933 with a 27 May report of an initial meeting of a group to be called the Cudgen Headland Progress Association appearing in the local newspaper. The reporter used the term Cudgen Headland Ratepayers even though the name Kingscliff had been determined as the locality in the 1920s. Mr Warner-Bubb was named as President of the Association.
Over the years, the Association has contributed to the many initiatives that have shaped the special character of Kingscliff and provided the amenity that makes Kingscliff such a great place to live, visit and do business. The work of the Association, through the contribution of many members over more than 85 years, has shown what can be done with perseverance, persistence and a vision and love for the place we all call home.
Stories of Kingscliff
The historical minutes of the meetings of the Kingscliff Ratepayers and Progress Association Inc. (under various names over the years) provide a wonderful insight, not only into the work of the Association, but also into the many events and activities that have helped shape Kingscliff. They also demonstrate the strength of a coordinated community response to external pressures which often threaten the fabric and amenity of communities such as the districts within 2487.
The following vignettes have been written by a group of current members of the Association and are taken directly from the meeting minutes. They show the important role that an organisation such as KRPA plays as the key voice for residents and ratepayers in progressing and protecting our community.
